Vijay A. Verma Volunteer Moderator. Can you download it again and reinstall? DaveM Independent Advisor. Hi Sally, The new Skype app it is being updated constantly to bring it up to the functionality of Skype 7, Microsoft are working hard in the background on the new App.
But yes, it still has your favorite Skype features, of course. Whether you want to reach your friends or want to adjust your settings, the friendliness and functionality of Skype remains when used on a Windows 8 device. For your desktop, download the latest Skype for Windows.
To begin using Skype, just click or tap on the Skype icon then sign in to your Skype account. Once signed in, navigate through Home Screen with the following sections: the Recent tab at the left side, Favorites at the middle, and People at the right. Recent displays your contacts whom you had your recent calls and conversations. Favorites displays the profile pictures of your contacts tagged as your favorites.
Note that you can add or remove to this section. People displays your contacts with their profile photo in alphabetical order. When you select the People tab, the complete list of your contacts will be shown. Once you click or tap any of your contacts, the conversation window opens. Like many old-school apps, though, it gained a lot of bloat and a bad reputation as other, faster apps came on the market.
Visually, Skype is acceptable and functional. Skype would be much improved by making them more clear and user-friendly.
The main function of Skype is internet calling and video. It does both without issue but, of course, everything depends on the quality of your internet connection.
Our main issue is with the ease of setting up and connecting calls, which can be frustrating and fruitless. Microsoft has attempted to give Skype an edge by offering a variety of additional services that might be of interest.
You can add subtitles to calls, for example, share the screen helpful for those less-techy relatives , or record your calls. You can also buy Skype credit, to call non-Skype numbers, or even in some parts of the world set up a Skype landline, which looks like a local number but connects to your Skype account.
All of these features are interesting and, to some users, really useful. The overall usability of Skype depends hugely on the quality of your internet connection. Skype is available for pretty much any platform you can imagine, including xBox and Alexa. This version is for Windows.
