I had a 64x Vista which I upgraded to a 64x Windows 7. I was trying to fix another problem and finally tried to do a restore point pre several operating feature un-installs.
Start computer with DVD in place. First page that comes up shows Boot F12 in upperR corner. Be sure to save before exiting with ESC X 2. Continue start by selecting F1 for start. Wait for message to come up that "says select any button to boot from CD. YOu have to be fast or it does not load Widows 7. Do that. Wait a couple of minutes for message to start load of Windows 7.
Window panel for selection of install comes up. Do not install but select the repair option in bottom left corner. Wait some more. Panel comes up with four options. I selected the "start with" option first time I tried it. That did not work for a final solution. So, I did it all over and selected the the second button for "restore from" point. OS windows t cecked and next. It all works now! Be sure to go back to F12 when finished and select Bios "default selection" and save.

I can move the cursor, but clicking does nothing and the pressing the keyboard keys doesn't do anything either. So there is no confusion, the screen is entirely black, with the exception of the mouse cursor. There is no task bar, no icons, nothing. A completely black screen. I looked at the link to "Why is my screen black All the issues there assume one has some sort of interface with Windows once it boots.
Again, I just get the black screen, nothing else. In the link, where people have a black screen, all the suggested fixes tell people to click on the task bar, or start in safe mode, or run regedit.
I can't do any of those things with the computer in the state that it's in right now. What it does: The PC turns on like normal. What I've tried: I tried to start it in safe mode, but the same thing happens.
