Windows 2008 r2 active directory users and computers snap in

It is Windows original not R2. Still, why can't it run AD users and computers from this machine? The first answer from Mathieu Chateau was basically correct, you do not have to dcpromo to get this. I think you're right and that it's a feature under Server Manager. If you dcpromo it, I think they show up automatically based on the roles you give it. But if it's just a member server, you have to install the feature "Remoter Server Administrator Tools".

Try looking there, and then make sure that you customize the Start Menu setting so that it shows up. The reason the RSAT tools are only available for download for the client OS is because that's how you're supposed to manage the whole domain. If you're logging in to a server to do basic domain administrative tasks, you're doing it wrong.

The only reason they exist on the DC is because they must be there for initial domain configuration and for troubleshooting and recovery. The general idea is that the only real reason to log on to a server is to install or configure software or updates.

Otherwise, if it can be done remotely, do it that way. Launch the server manager and click on the Features See the screenshot. I thought it will be easier to see the picture. Sign up to join this community. The best answers are voted up and rise to the top.

If so what is it named? Improve this question. Mark Arnott. On the R2 server I cant seem to find local group policy snap in. The closest thing is local users and groups and when I try to add that it says that I should add the active directory users and computers snap in instead. What snap in do I need to add to temporarly enable the use of blank passwords for active directory in server r2?

Trevor Fielder. Thursday, March 3, PM. Hi, Local policy and local users and groups are not an option on domain controllers. Thanks, Guy. Local group policy is an option and I have added it to the server.

The r2 is different and dont know why Trevor Fielder. Any more feedback? The more you tell us the more we can help. Can you help us improve? Resolved my issue. Clear instructions. Easy to follow. No jargon.
